two famous foreigners of Japanese sake experts
The Sake Handbook2014/3/30: John Gauntner
I also continued the introduction of sake,
but I would like to think about the theme
of how foreigners are involved in sake and in Japan,
with a different perspective.
In Japan, as far as I know, there are
two famous foreigners of Japanese sake experts.
It is a Japanese sake mission evangelist John Gauntner
from Ohio and USA, and Philip Harper Philip Harpe
who became a master of Kinoshita Shuzo (Kyoto).
Born in Ohio, USA, 54 years old, Gontner
who worked as an engineer was invited to
the teacher's home of a colleague of a high school teacher
in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture,
New Year 's Day in New Year 1989.
I bought five kinds of Japanese sake of different kind
and liked sake, I compared drinking rather than hot spring.
I thought that the taste changed as I drink and it is very fun.
My life has changed with this.
It has been around for 30 years to deepen the world of sake.
I think there is deepness of Japanese sake,
I think the taste, aroma, way of making,
history, culture, deep inside of sake.
I am doing a seminar on sake for foreigners in Japan.
I have been drinking sake after doing
a seminar for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Great chance to learn "How to teach Sake in English"
from world famous Sake journalist or missionary John Gauntner.
He will give you his precious knowhow which
he has accumulated along with his carrier.
How to get the attention of winelovers,
how to choose sakes for tasting, and most importantly
how to describe the tastes of each sake.

Philip Harper was born in Birmingham,
England, England in 1966,
I grew up in Cornwall province.
In 1988 he received a bachelor's degree in English literature
and graduated from Oxford University.
After graduation, I went to Osaka by
Japanese foreign language youth
invitation project (JET), and I got English at public
junior high school and senior high school
I continued my teaching work for two years.
Harper originally liked European drinks,
I met sake with teachers of my colleague.
Eventually I joined the gathering of sake lovers,
I began to drink around the bar in Osaka.
In future, I would like to continue writing about them.
